Today show contest glitch

A glitch with a competition line left Today show viewers upset yesterday, when the Mega Cash Giveaway sent out multiple SMS replies.

On Today’s Facebook page viewers were worried they were being overcharged.

“This is ridiculous!! Now up to 30+ even after blocking the number! I want TODAY to reimburse as I only just topped up my phone yesterday and now it is using up all my credit. Not happy!!” said one viewer.

“Me too – 22 times and counting hope I’m not being charged each time?” added another.

“I received 32 replies this afternoon. What is wrong with your sms service?” another asked.

A Nine spokesperson told TV Tonight there were no extra charges and the problem had been fixed.

There was a short outage on our Mega Cash Giveaway line this morning which meant some entry messages did not get through at that time. Unfortunately, when processing these messages later, confirmation replies may have been sent more than once,” they said.

“Viewers have not been charged for these reply messages and only the messages they have originally sent will be entered into the draw for tomorrow’s call.”
