US delays Heathers launch

SBS VICELAND forced to hold off fast-tracked premiere.

The US premiere of Heathers has been delayed in the US following the recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

Due to launch on March 7th it is now held back, with a new date yet to be determined.

The news comes just a day after SBS VICELAND announced it would be fast-tracked in Australia next week.

“Paramount Network’s original series Heathers is a satirical comedy that takes creative risks in dealing with many of society’s most challenging subjects ranging from personal identity to race and socio-economic status to gun violence,” Paramount Network said in a statement.

“While we stand firmly behind the show, in light of the recent tragic events in Florida and out of respect for the victims, their families and loved ones, we feel the right thing to do is delay the premiere until later this year.”

The show, based on the 1988 movie of the same name, is described a pitch-black comedy anthology set in the present day.

VICELAND will now replay RocKwiz episodes in its place on Thursday March 8th.

  1. “Heathers is an attempt to weaponize nostalgia for a cult film into an angry diatribe against the bugbears of social progressivism, painting the oppressed as oppressors so that the beneficiaries of oppression can feel good about trying to stamp out those whom they feel threaten their standing.” – Birth Movies Death review

Says it all really – a bigoted and offensive show longing for the old days where the minorities stayed in their place

  2. Speaking of ‘Buffy’. one of the eps of that was delayed because of the school shooting theme in it in the wake of Colombine all those years back-says it all about US common sense really-I am getting very tired of people bleating about wanting everything to be fast tracked and then complaining about delays caused by US scheduling.

    1. Yeah fast tracking is overblown for US shows for mine and I feel for the Aust networks in some ways. The way most US shows have the 26 episode season played out over there is annoying, 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off, 2 weeks on, 1 week off, 3 weeks off and etc., to drag a season out to 32 weeks of a year. Much rather watch say NCIS delayed and have it 26 weeks straight than have it interrupted all the time like the US schedule shows.

In some ways I long for the old days where we waited here and started in February, played out a show for 26 weeks straight and got the Christmas episodes in July. Ideally of course would love the US networks to go to the Netflix model and dump all episodes at once on the same day online, however that will never happen (after the NBC Aquarius experiment).

Even annoyed me a bit yesterday when I jumped on to Amazon Prime and found they’d only released 3…
