Airdate: Elton John: I’m Still Standing

All star Grammy tribute to Elton; plus The Beatles: Eight Days a Week: The Touring Special.

I’m probably in the minority but I quite like that Nine is returning to primetime music specials.

Last year it screened some fun specials on Saturday Night Fever and the Bee Gees, and in recent times Adele, Grease and the Manchester concert by Ariana Grande. They sure make a change from relentless reality.

That said, I accept they are niche so unlikely to be broad ratings successes… not sure they all qualify for the 7:30 timeslot.

Next week there are two more, Elton John: I’m Still Standing at 7:30pm Wednesday April 18.

This is a Grammy tribute featuring Ed Sheeran, Miley Cyrus, Kesha, John Legend, Little Big Town, Chris Martin, Sam Smith, and Keith Urban. Filmed at Madison Square Gardens in January it is only going to air in the US now.

It followed by  The Beatles: Eight Days a Week: The Touring Special at 9:30pm.

  1. This is going to be a really good special. For those unaware there are two Elton John Covers albums – “Revamp” and “Restore” that were released last week and they feature studio recordings of some of the performances from the artists involved in this TV special. They’re all really impressive so I’m excited to watch it on TV. The standout for me was Little Big Town’s cover of ‘Rocket Man’. I can’t wait!

  2. Yeah agree David. i would like to see more concerts in prime time, maybe put them on multichannels instead if they wont rate highly enough on main channel. I remember during the 90s when TEN did this, some of them were Video Hits specials.
