Airdate: Exodus: Our Journey

Ground-breaking documentary gets a sequel -and a disappointing timeslot from SBS.

Viewers who were fascinated by the ground-breaking documentary Exodus: Our Journey to Europe, in which asylum seekers told their story first-hand with camera phones, will need to set their PVRs for the sequel, Exodus: Our Journey.

SBS has given this a disappointing timeslot of 11:55pm this Sunday.

This is a 3 part follow-up to some of the faces who appeared in the first season, which screened on the BBC in November. Episode 2 and 3 will screen at earlier times.

Exodus: Our Journey returns to look at the plight of migrants as they try to reach Europe in search of a better life free from poverty, persecution and war.

In this latest instalment, as the rise of the right has led to the shutting of borders across the whole of Europe, the journeys have got a whole lot harder. We revisit some of those who arrived in 2015 and find out how they have been welcomed by the countries they now call home. We also follow the stories of those who are still making the increasingly difficult and dangerous journeys in search of a better life.

Inside Europe, the way out of the camps and across the closed borders is with smugglers who offer little more than a risky journey and an uncertain future. This startling series presents a terrifying, intimate and epic portrait of the migration crisis.

Series Two, Episode One:
Ali and Sharin are newlyweds from Afghanistan. They have spent the last month camping on the streets of Thessaloniki, waiting for smugglers to get them across the heavily guarded borders into Macedonia and Serbia. This is not the honeymoon they dreamed of.
