Airdate: Homecoming Queens

Qld comedy commissioned for SBS On Demand will get a TV broadcast after all.

Next month SBS VICELAND will give a TV broadcast to Homecoming Queens, the comedy commissioned for SBS On Demand.

All 7 episodes featuring Liv Hewson and Michelle Law will screen in a 1 hour instalment.

Marshall Heald, SBS’s Director of Television and Online Content, said: “We are incredibly proud of this quirky, emotional series and the positive response we’ve had from online audiences so we look forward to bringing this vibrant program to viewers on our youth focused channel, SBS VICELAND.”

Michelle Law and Chloë Reeson said, “We set out to create a story that hadn’t been told before so it is fantastic to see Homecoming Queens has connected with so many Australians.”

Thanks to an overwhelmingly positive reception since its premiere on April 12, funny, female-driven drama series Homecoming Queens will air on SBS VICELAND as a special one hour version, sharing the lives of two twenty-somethings as they navigate adulthood after life-changing illness.

Co-created and co-written by Michelle Law and real-life best mate Chloë Reeson, Homecoming Queens was inspired by their own friendship and health experiences (with a little creative license). The dramedy stars Liv Hewson (Santa Clarita Diet) as ‘Chloe’ and Law as ‘Michelle’ in her first on-screen role.

Directed and executive produced by ADG Award-winner Corrie Chen (Sisters, Mustangs FC), Homecoming Queens creates comedy out of tragic, sometimes just plain weird, scenarios and shows how deeply funny life can be in its most serious moments. It’s a heart-warming series about upended expectations and asking what happens when you return to places, relationships, even your own body, and find nothing is quite the way you remember it.

Homecoming Queens is a Generator Pictures production created for SBS with principal production investment from Screen Australia, in association with Screen Queensland, Film Victoria and Mind the Gap Film Finance. Developed by Generator Pictures with the assistance of Screen Australia, SBS and Screen Queensland.

9pm Thursday May 3 on SBS VICELAND.
