Axed: Mozart in the Jungle

Amazon-produced series starring Gael Garcia Bernal is no more.

US drama Mozart in the Jungle has been axed after 4 seasons.

The Amazon show starring Gael Garcia Bernal, launched its 4th season in February but the streaming giant does not release viewer numbers. It has previously won two Golden Globe awards.

The cancellation marks the first major programming decision by newly-appointed chief Jennifer Salke.

“We are so proud of the four seasons we made of this show and are grateful to the cast, crew, fans and Amazon for writing this symphony with us. We hope people will keep finding the show for years to come,” said executive producers Paul Weitz, Roman Coppola, Jason Schwartzman and Will Graham in a joint statement.

Amazon has been forthright in its pursuit of bigger bets, including a planned Lord of the Rings TV drama plus Good Omens, The Grand Tour and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

The series debuted in Australia on Stan but screens thereafter on Amazon Prime.
