Not everything is golden at Netflix.
New anthology crime drama Seven Seconds has been axed after launching in February.
Produced by Veena Sud (The Killing US), it explored race relations between law enforcement and the community, with an emphasis on the human stories behind the headlines.
The 10 episode season starred Regina King (American Crime) and Clare-Hope Ashitey (Doctor Foster). Aussie David Lyons also featured.
“We loved working with Veena Sud, Regina King and the cast and crew of Seven Seconds. Together they created a compelling, timely and relevant crime drama. The first season is a complete, stand-alone story that we are proud to feature on Netflix for years to come,” Cindy Holland, vice president of originals at Netflix, said in a statement.
Seven Seconds joins a slim list of other cancelled dramas including Girlboss, Gypsy, The Get Down, and comedy Everything Sucks!

I suspect that Netflix is developing more categories of entertainment that will attract a broader audience based on their own in house ratings data, if so then perhaps Netflix should look to initiating further co-productions with large production companies and attract the successful showrunners. Netflix definitely will need a lot more commercial product which has more appeal worldwide. products that perhaps will attract buyers for streamed copies or released on DVD like The Crown.
It was good, but flawed. I think they did everything they needed to do and a second season wasn’t warranted.
