Commonwealth Games dominates as Gold begins

Ratings: The games ensures Seven's primetime share is twice the size of its nearest rival.

Day 1 of Commonwealth Games competition has given Seven a primetime share twice that of its nearest rival.

As the Gold began to roll, Seven scored a 42.4% share ahead of Nine on 21.3%, TEN 15.7%, ABC 14.4% and SBS 6.1%.

Primetime viewing was divided into two sessions of Evening, averaging 1.24m viewers and Night 1 at 1.17m (elsewhere Afternoon 554,000 / Day 1: 418,000).

Additional TWO viewing was not a blindside however, but still topped multichannels with a 3.9% share. Sessions averaged 157,000 / 115,000 in primetime.

The games’ nearest competition was A Current Affair at 681,000 however Gogglebox was the highest entertainment offering at 554,000 (can’t wait to hear their review of the Opening Ceremony next week).

Sunrise also enjoyed a Games lift at 349,000 -100k ahead of Today‘s 249,000.

  1. So far none of the crass jingoism from the commentators which we used to get when Channel 9 had the games. Let’s hope it stays that way.

  2. I’d love to see Gogglebox review the Opening Ceremony, but will they be allowed to given all the rights issues with Commonwealth Games footage?

    It’s worth remembering 7mate got 6-9% shares during the Winter Olympics, only because there was only one feed running (so this was during news and MKR).

    So having a second, different feed on 7Two alongside Channel 7 is always going to be tougher to draw big crowds (although it will happen), 7mate definitely with the AFL.
