Dennis Cometti on Seven’s cricket wishlist

Seven boss Tim Worner is keen to lure Denis Cometti from retirement for it’s upcoming Cricket broadcasts.

“I can certainly tell you that I have reached out to Dennis Cometti,” he told the Seven-owned West Australian.

“Dennis is someone who I believe is a superb commentator and he actually started I think calling cricket.

“He’s called a lot of cricket and he’s exceptionally good at it.”

Worner praised TEN’s Big Bash coverage but wants to refresh Test cricket presentation.

There is, however, speculation that Seven may top and tail FOX Sports-produced Cricket broadcasting.

FOS Sports wants commentator Bill Lawry, 81, in a part-time role, including Melbourne’s Boxing Day Test match and one-dayers, the article notes.

Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchris from TEN’s Big Bash League coverage, are also likely to be in demand.

  1. Why don’t they just poach the channel 9 commentary team? They’ve spent years building up the team and have become part of the furniture.

  2. Dennis hasn’t done cricket for years and I think regrets being away from his family so much over the years. So it would seem unlikely. However the cricket season is much shorter as Worner notes especially when you count Seven not broadcasting ODIS.

A bit like Bill Lawry doing the Boxing Day Tests, Dennis Cometti could just do his home Perth Tests and One Day Internationals there, be nice if they did that in all States, have someone of and from the State the game is played (Stadium/Ground knowledge etc).
