“I assume you are getting a few tips on how to make a program that rates.”

Ding ding! Round #2 in the Project v Sunrise stoush sees Ron Wilson serve it up to Tom Whitty.

Former TEN news presenter Ron Wilson has delivered a serve to The Project‘s managing editor Tom Whitty, who yesterday criticised a Sunrise panel discussion on a Greens’ welfare proposal.

After Whitty labelled it “Commercial Television at its worst”, Wilson, who was on the panel, sent a pointed reply via Facebook.

“Thanks for watching Hot Topics on SEVEN Mr Whitty. I assume you are getting a few tips on how to make a program that rates.”

Ouch.

Last night Waleed Aly in an editorial said the Universal Basic Income proposal, which is being trialled in Finland, was a more interesting idea than people credited it with.

  1. “which is being trialled in Finland”

No it isn’t. They are trialing unemployment benefits that don’t reduce with increased income. That isn’t even close to a trial of a universal basic income.

  2. The Project rates higher than Sunrise though? I mean after all, we’re talking about prime-time vs. breakfast.

But I take it Mr Wilson and others are referring to its timeslot (losing to their rivals), as opposed to Sunrise winning (they beat their rivals).

    1. Don’t let the ratings figures confuse you – they are an average over the entire 7-9am section and not a total audience. Millions of people watch part of Sunrise each day and The Project, even in primetime, gets a fraction of that.

    2. Sully if you compared sunrise as a % of its audience share in the much smaller reach market at 7am compared to the % the project gets of its audience share in a much bigger reach market at 7pm you would see that as a % sunrise outrates the project.
As for the comment that Waleed said the unviersal basic income has merit, of course he would he and the greens are one in one. Does the left realise that a universal basic income would give a multi multi millionaire the same amount of money per week as a destitute homeless person living on the streets- clearly not! The concept of universal is everyone gets the same regardless of any other factors- that is scary that is communism!
