Renewed: Roseanne

21 years after its return, US network orders even more of nostalgic sitcom.

With even the US President calling to congratulate her, it was only a matter of time before Roseanne got the call she really wanted….

ABC has renewed the revived Roseanne Barr-sitcom for another season (the 11th overall).

The good news follows bumper ratings for the comedy at over 18m US viewers.

Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Alicia Goranson and Michael Fishman will all return for new episodes, with the Hollywood Reporter speculating the order has been increased from 9 episodes to 13.

“We’re thrilled that America has welcomed the Conner family back into their homes,” said ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey. “The show is as fresh and relevant today as it was when it left the air 21 years ago. We can’t wait to see what the Roseanne team has in store for next year.”

TEN is currently teasing the show’s return for the Australian market, but yet to reveal a premiere date.

  1. The media hype over Roseanne being a Trump supporter has blown out of proportion.

I’ve seen the first two episodes and there’s not even a mention of Trump. When politics does come into it, it’s more how the election has divided the Conner family. As Sara Gilbert herself said, Roseanne is the only one who voted for Trump. It’s exploring that divide, not specifically taking sides.

I think if people gave the new series a shot, they’d like it. It really is still as relevant now as it was back then.

  2. Hurry up Channel Ten!! Don’t stuff this one up like you did with “This Is Us” … might be nice to see the previous seasons 1-9 on Ten or Eleven too, like you did with “Will & Grace”

    1. In the words of Lisa Wilkinson on Fri. night’s The Project: “Roseanne debuts right here on Ten, later this year” … whatever that means.
