Ross Coulthart has departed 60 Minutes after 3 years.
Commentator Peter Ford revealed his departure this morning on 3AW, attributing it to cost cuts.
“He is a very, very fine investigative journalist, but he has already left the show,” he said. “He’s left stories in the can that are yet to go to air.
“It’s civil, it’s all about dollar,” he added.
Prior to Nine Coulthart was previously at Sunday Night, but was previously a reporter on the famed Sunday program.
Nine today confirmed Coulthart’s contract had not been renewed.

So now we can expect more fluff pieces.
Surely the ABC could get him on their books for Four Corners or something? Or Ten if they want to beef up their news credentials and choose to invest in serious journalism as opposed to sugar hit stuff.
A shame because he was the best journo they had. The others have settled for puff pieces and travelogues
Which, unfortunately, is probably the point – why go for a hard-hitting investigative piece that inevitably costs a fair bit and likely doesn’t have cost offsets, when you could instead air a nice celebrity puff piece w/possible ad buys for whatever movie they’re promoting, or a sumptuous travelogue partly offset by that country’s tourism bureau.
And a headline tomorrow morning will say “Seven welcomes Ross Coulthart back to Sunday Night”
Hahaha. He would be a better fit on Four Courners or Foreign Correspondent.
