The Living Room: Apr 20

Amanda Keller meets Urzila Carlson, Dr. Chris is kayaking in Tassie & Miguel cooks with Italian chef Alessandro Pavoni.

This week on The Living Room, Amanda Keller meets comedian Urzila Carlson, Dr. Chris is kayaking in Tassie and Miguel cooks with Italian chef Alessandro Pavoni.

Amanda Keller jumps across the ditch to meet South African born comedian, Urzila Carlson. While floating down the Avon River in Christchurch, the pair talk about growing up in South Africa, the uncomfortable truths of aging, and even have a Marmite vs Vegemite taste test, to see how Kiwi Urzila really is.

Dr Chris Brown heads to Tasmania where he joins forces with Craig Machen, who successfully kayaked around Tasmania to raise money for motor neuron disease charities. Big seas caused Craig to bypass the spectacular Tasman peninsular, so he is hitting the water with Chris to complete this part of the journey, encountering some amazing sea life along the way.

Peter Walsh helps sea-changers Donna and Jamie transform their clutter-filled garage into a sleek home office, while Miguel Maestre challenges one of Australia’s greatest Italian chefs, Alessandro Pavoni, to make the perfect gnocchi. Alessandro shares his tips on how to make the lightest and most delicious gnocchi every time and Miguel whips up a zesty and creamy pesto to go with the potato pillows.

7:30pm Friday on TEN.

  1. Thank you Tex I stand corrected – I must be the only TV watcher not to have heard of Urzilla or Alessandro.
I still reckon the show will struggle to get past 400,000 metro viewers with this calibre of ” celebrity ” though…

  2. Wow, am I the only one who hasn’t heard of the South African born comedian who now lives in NZ?
If this is a Celebrity Guest this is a major mistake by TLR producers.
Same for ” one of Australia’s greatest Italian chefs ” – what’s his name. Oh yes the chef I’ve never heard of either.
Really this show is going nowhere and its about to be gobbled up and spat out by Gardening Australia and even the arthritic Boring Homes and Gardens…

    1. “Wow, am I the only one who hasn’t heard of …”

      Quite possibly.

Urzila’s been a semi-regular on HYBPA? for a while – even I know this, though I only ever catch the start or end of that show as I’m changing channels. And Alessandro is one of the top-50 chefs in Australia, has been on Masterchef a couple of times, featured in several SBS food shows, and is a not-infrequent subject of the daily chip wrappers of Australian print media.
