Vale: Robert Alexander

Actor Robert Alexander, a veteran of Australian stage & screen, has died, aged 76.

He passed away peacefully away at the Sacred Heart Hospice last week following a lengthy illness.

Alexander appeared as Mr. Kennedy in Dance Academy, Colin Burke in Neighbours and Brother Marzorini in The Story of Johnny O’Keefe.

There were roles in Rake, Beat Bugs, Home and Away, Police Rescue, Big Sky, All Saints and Review with Myles Barlow plus UK productions The Bill and Minder Down Under. Film credits included Muriel’s Wedding, Skin Deep, Cathy’s Child, The Empty Beach and Basquiat.

Alexander was also a regular on the Australian theatre scene with numerous productions for Bell Shakespeare, Sydney Theatre Company, Nimrod, Griffin, State Theatre Co. of South Australia, Opera Australia, Queensland Theatre Company and The Hunter Valley Theatre Co. of which he was a founding member. He won a Green Room Award for Torch Song Trilogy.

He was noted as an “esteemed actor; accomplished musician; kind mentor to emerging young actors; cherished colleague; intelligent, generous, witty and convivial host to a multitude of fortunate friends.”
