Airdate: Elvis Presley: The Searcher

SBS screens a brand new HBO doco on the King of Rock & Roll.

Elvis is in the SBS building, sorta…..

On Sunday SBS screens the first of a 2 part doco Elvis Presley: The Searcher.

This is a 2018 doco produced by HBO which screened last month in the US. Not sure why it isn’t on Foxtel, but it probably nods to a different distributor (possibly Sony Pictures Television).

This feature focuses on Elvis Presley, the musical artist, taking the audience on a comprehensive creative journey from his childhood through to the final 1976 Jungle Room recording sessions. The films include stunning atmospheric shots taken inside Graceland, Elvis’ iconic home, and features more than twenty new, primary source interviews with session players, producers, engineers, directors, and other artists who knew him or who were profoundly influenced by him.

The documentary also features never-before-seen photos and footage from private collections worldwide, and includes an original musical score composed by Pearl Jam lead guitarist Mike McCready. Among those offering insights into Elvis are: Priscilla Presley, his guitarist, Scotty Moore and musicians Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Emmylou Harris and Robbie Robertson.

Episode One:
A look at Elvis’ early life in Tupelo, Mississippi, and his unprecedented rise to fame over a single year.

Sunday, 27 May at 8.30pm on SBS.
