Grammy-winning Alaskan-based rockers Portugal. The Man have knocked back an appearance on Sunrise following the show’s recent controversy in which a panel advocated for Indigenous at risk children to be cared for by white Australians.
On social media the band said they were due to appear but did not want to be part of the show at this time.
“We come from rural Alaska and hold very close to our hearts the Indigenous people of our home,” they said.
“While we are by no means experts in your countries [sic] history we know there are problems that, like ours, are yet to be resolved and only being amplified by the recent statements on Sunrise.”
The segment in March with Prue MacSween, Sam Armytage and Ben Davis led to angry protests at Martin Place and on the Gold Coast, including with land rights protestors.
Sunrise addressed the topic more comprehensively with community leaders the following week but the issue appears to keep resurfacing. ACMA is also investigating the incident.

Never heard of them… They’ll probably get more exposure by not appearing on Sunrise then showing up.
I’m sorry who are these people? *shrug*
Good on them, sunrise is pure garbage™
