UK period drama The Last Post was recently axed by BBC after just one season.

Jessie Buckley & Jessica Raines starred in the series by Peter Moffat (Spooks) in a close up view of army life in Aden, Yemen, during the 1960s.

The Last Post was a fantastic series but we can confirm it won’t be returning. We are looking to bring new ideas to BBC One and tell new stories”, a BBC spokesperson said in a statement. “We’d like to thank Peter, the brilliant cast and production team for all their hard work on the series.”

It aired in Australia on ABC late last year.

  1. This show was brilliant and thank goodness for the ABC for broadcasting it! The acting was outstanding, the clothes were on cue, the location and technology (cars, toys, watches, interests etc.) seemed in keeping with the time, strong tones of a waning British empire but reflective of the experience of many of its colonial people at this time. The show had it all: politics, history, intrigue, honour, respect, love, lust, war, marriage and family, birth, death, betrayal, blackmail, espionage, cross-cultural understanding/misunderstanding at a time when across the globe we need greater appreciation of these human contradictions to better adapt to the present and prepare for the future. Essential education hidden within elegant and what should be exalted entertainment. How could it be axed? I see that Film Afrika, The African Government, Bodafide Films, The Forge co-produced in association…

  2. I quite enjoyed this, it’s a shame the BBC axed it, although it obviously didn’t rate that well in the UK when the first series went to air on British TV
