Michael Palin films doco in North Korea

It took 2 years of planning for Michael Palin to pull off arguably his most challenging travel doco yet.

Michael Palin has filmed a new documentary in North Korea.

The UK doco was filmed in the days around the time of Kim Jong-Un meeting South Korean President Moon Jae-In. Palin covered more than 1,300 miles across the country, from the capital Pyongyang to exploring the snowy peaks of Mount Paektu. The programme took two years of planning.

“To visit North Korea was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. For somewhere that is so often in the forefront of the news, it remains a complete mystery to most of us. That we were able to travel across the country and get some sense of everyday life was enormously exciting,” said Palin.

“The visit was an eye-opener for me, and I’m sure it will be the same for others. In all my travels around the world I have never had the same sense of fascination and revelation as on this journey to North Korea.”

An Australian broadcaster is yet to be announced.

  1. It’ll be interesting to see what vision he gets that other tourists can’t. Because normally it’s the same old routine if you choose to go there as a tourist. Stay at the same hotel, have a guide with you at all times – who won’t leave your side. and you are taken to a few spots that have been approved by the supreme leader.
