ODI Tour of England 2018: guide

New captain Tim Paine leads the first series since the ball-tampering scandal, next month on Nine.

Before Test Cricket leaves the Nine Network it screens the One Day International tour of England commences on Nine and 9GEM next month.

Nine’s Director of Sport, Tom Malone, said: “There is so much interest around this new Australian cricket team. Wide World of Sports is thrilled to be the home of The Ashes, and all of the ICC World Cups for the next five years. These ODIs in England will be crucial in preparation for next year’s World Cup on the same pitches.”

In the first series since the ball-tampering scandal, new coach Justin Langer will take charge of a team of fresh faces against England in a five-game ODI series and one Twenty20 International that begins at The Oval in London.

Led by new captain Tim Paine and vice-captain Aaron Finch, the Aussies will be out for revenge after their series loss in January, and will draw on limited-overs stars Glenn Maxwell and D’Arcy Short, as well as bowlers Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazelwood.

Having recently taken the world No.1 ODI ranking, England will be tough opposition, with captain Eoin Morgan leading a dangerous lineup that includes Joe Root and Ben Stokes.

  1. I remember when 9 didn’t show England tours (The Ashes ) because of the 10 hours time difference. SBS stepped in once and took the Sky stream. Interesting that they should suddenly be showing a meaningless one day series in the middle of the night here, new team look or not.

  2. Definitely not on Fox Sports as Nine have the exclusive rights for this series along with The Ashes next year. Interesting that Nine did decide to keep the ODI matches since losing the local rights a month ago and that 2 of the 5 matches will go head to head with Socceroos World Cup matches. But with the vacant chasm of their Saturday night schedule, they have nothing to lose in putting that 2nd match on the main channel (when it’s head to head with Australia v France)

  3. And this sadly is why the cricket leaving the Nine Network soon is a good thing – all but one game in “glorious” standard definition… not good enough in this day and age. Would be better if they were allowed to stream it in HD via 9now but sadly I’d expect the rules will still apply as previously where they can’t stream the cricket via their app. Bring on Fox Cricket.
