Playmaker to produce thriller for Sony

A 10 part serial killer drama will be made in Australia for Sony's international channels.

Playmaker (The Code, Friday on My Mind, Bite Club, House Husbands) will produce a 10 part psychological thriller drama Reckoning for Sony Pictures Television Networks.

The drama by writer David Hubbard (Noel) and veteran showrunner David Eick (Battlestar Galactica, Falling Skies) will also screen on international channels in Europe and Latin America.

Filming will begin on July 9th, wholly produced and post-produced in Australia.

The series explores the darkest corners of the male psyche through the eyes of two fathers, one of whom is a serial-killer. Like most men, Leo and Mike try to do what’s best for the people they love, the families they protect. But as both struggle to suppress their inner demons, the murder of a local teenager sets them on a course of mutual destruction that will emanate through every facet of their quiet, suburban community.

David Taylor and David Maher (pictured) will executive produce while Shawn Seet (The Code, Olivia) will direct.

Reckoning is one of those rare reads you just can’t shake. It’s a family drama like no other, a real study in human behaviour and what makes people do – or not do – the unfathomable. And with AXN’s core focus on high-end crime thrillers, Reckoning fits the bill in every way. We are thrilled to work with David Hubbard and David Eick in bringing this beautiful script to life, and Sony’s very own Playmaker is just the team to make it happen,” said Marie Jacobson, Exec Vice President, Programming and Production, Sony Pictures Television Networks.

“We are excited to be working with Marie and the team at Sony Pictures Television Networks on this thrilling new international drama,” said Playmaker’s Taylor and Maher. “David Hubbard’s character-driven narrative is full of suspense and major twists that make for an intense, riveting journey. We can’t wait to bring this story to life on screen.”
