  1. I quite liked the first 4 seasons but couldn’t get past the 3rd episode this series and deleted from my Hulu watch list. Surprised it continued given the ratings but obviously the management at Disney have a plan.

  2. This last season has been very claustrophobic given the settings-the series is the only thing of the much overhyped ‘comic’ universe that I care to follow…glad to hear it soldiers on!

  3. ABC didn’t want AOS, it’s only getting 13 eps and not a Fall start, not a mid season start but is being used as Summer filler. Marvel wanted to keep it on air until the Avengers franchise winds up and priced it so that it’s worth ABC airing it in Summer. If Marvel want to keep doing that, ABC isn’t going to stand in the way.

    1. Like I say below though (from the ABC presser), it puts S.H.I.E.L.D after Captain Marvel ( March 6th) and the fourth Avengers film (May 3rd) which are slated to usher in significant changes for Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, so S.H.I.E.L.D may change as well.

Thing that I am also wondering is if Disney do end up buying FOX (which may have hit a new road block with Comcast putting in a $31 billion bid for the 61% of Sky not currently owned by Fox) and given they also own Marvel and want FOX for other Marvel properties and Avatar. A few shows like S.H.I.E.L.D could end up being moved to FOX and DC shows like Gotham dumped in favour of Marvel ones, plus of course there is the Disney Streaming service.

      1. Disney have quite a production line going already especially with it’s Pixar and Star Wars franchise which can be seen commercially everywhere, Marvel currently are the best comic book superhero genre spread across the entertainment spectrum, but streaming is still relatively new so Disney may wait to see what happens with Netflix’s own massive investment in original productions before deciding how best to use it’s own expansive resources.

        1. Good point on the cost to Disney, though I still get the feeling S.H.I.E.L.D will get a back order after those movies play out, as a US Summer series S.H.I.E.L.D will play well of those (and others to come).

  4. Also it is moving to the US Summer
Channing Dungey, ABC President of Entertainment made clear that the upcoming season is not envisioned as a series ender. I feel the season we just had was creatively the strongest yet,” she told attendees. We don’t plan it as a final season. The show has a loyal passionate base. It does incredibly well in delayed viewing. By putting it on the summer we feel we can super-serve the show’s audience and possibly have it on the air longer,” she added.

Of course that means that S.H.I.E.L.D’s sixth season will start in 2019 after both Captain Marvel (due March 6th) and the fourth Avengers film (due May 3rd), so it may be for a good reason yet and end up with a back order on episodes yet.

  5. Good news on both counts; I like the show and think the writing will benefit from a shorter series as I think they tend to stretch the story arc a little. The DC series’ should take note as they tend to stretch the available storyline a lot. Not sure that’s the motivation for the shortened season but in some cases I don’t think the 23 ep seasons really do any favours for the programs.

  6. I was worried about this possibly not being renewed because it hasn’t really had a great rap but after a weak 2nd and 3rd season, I’ve been loving the last couple.
