Renewed: Outlander

Not 1 but 2 more seasons of sprawling hit melodrama.

Hit US melodrama Outlander has been renewed for 2 seasons.

Starz has renewed the sprawling drama based on Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling books for 2 x 12 episodes, down on the current season of 13 episodes.

“Fans can rest assured their beloved Claire and Jamie will be back facing new challenges, adversaries and adventures in seasons five and six as we delve into American history and continue the story of the Frasers as they settle in the New World,” Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said in a statement.

Season three averaged 5.8m total US viewers cross multiple platforms and ranks as the second-most-watched premium scripted series among women — behind only Game of Thrones.

Season four is currently in production in Scotland and will consist of 13 episodes following Drums of Autumn, Gabaldon’s fourth of eight books in Gabaldon’s series.

Outlander airs in Australia on Showcase.

  1. i enjoyed the first season after that i am beginning to think it is not my cup of tea! Just curious for those that have read the books, how old do they get because she must be nearly playing a 50 year old in the 3 season???

    1. Yes, I would say Claire would be in her fifties but her daughter is still in the background, I’m sure those who have read the books will want the show to continue.

    2. Despite chronological age, Jamie and Claire never seem that old. Of course, Claire appears much younger than her 18th century peers because of the advantages of modern living she has had most of her life.

One of the best things about the books is the portrayal of a youthful and passionate marriage between two people who are no longer in their twenties. In fact, the marriage is better, like in real life.
