New US medical drama The Resident has been renewed for a second season.
Set in the fictional Chastain Park Memorial Hospital, it stars Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp, Manish Dayal and Bruce Greenwood, and with executive producers including Todd Harthan, Amy Holden Jones and Aussie Phillip Noyce.
The series is averaging 4.6 million US viewers, but climbs to more than 10 million with multi-platform factored in.
“Amy, Todd and all the producers on The Resident set out to create a medical show that viewers haven’t seen before — to peel back the curtain and reveal the truth of what happens, both good and bad, behind the scenes at hospitals across the country. Clearly, they’ve succeeded,” said Michael Thorn, president of entertainment at FOX Broadcasting Company. “Matt, Emily, Bruce, Manish, Shaunette and the show’s entire cast have turned in consistently heartfelt performances, and we are so excited to go back to Chastain Memorial for another tremendous season.”
Season 1 is currently screening in Australia on Seven.

Great news, I’ve been really enjoying this show. Now we just hope that evil Dr Hunt gets what’s coming to her. What a nasty piece of work she is.
I love how we all think Bell is going to be the worst person on the show and then Hunter comes along.
Has to be said, it has maintained its niche audience on Seven hasn’t it? Probably good enough for late night?
I’m so happy about this! Took me three or four episodes to get into the show but now it’s plodding along nicely.
