Report: Netflix to greenlight Locke and Key

Carlton Cuse is set to lead a new horror thriller based on a comic book series.

US comic book series Locke and Key is set to become a new Netflix series according to US media reports.

A pilot had been made for Hulu with Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel, The Strain) as showrunner but the Hollywood Reporter suggests Cuse (pictured) and comic creator Joe Hill will redevelop the series with an entirely new cast and director.

The Hulu pilot featured Aussie featured Frances O’Connor as a mother who moves her family into a haunted house after the patriarch is brutally murdered. But she will not appear in the Netflix version.

The horror thriller has a long history, originally developed for television at FOX during the 2010-11 broadcast season with Miranda Otto but did not move forward.

Netflix is reportedly near a series order but declined comment as deals are not done.

  1. This is terrific news. Joe Hill is Stephen King’s son and his writing in this graphic novel is just as strong as some of his father’s best work. I would howl in fright or shock when turning pages throughout often. I really hope the transfer to TV does it justice.
