Warning: Don’t read until you have seen the Survivor finale.

Aussie singer and diehard Survivor fan Sia has donated $10,000 to one of the show’s season’s contestants.

Sia was moved by the story of 26 year old caretaker Donathan Hurley, who shared his story of coming out as a gay youth in Kentucky and being subjected to bullying. He told host Jeff Probst making it to Ghost Island‘s last remaining contestants was part of overcoming adversity.

In 2016 Sia donated $50,000 to contestant Tai who had tendered the show’s resident chickens and another $50,000 to an animal charity.

The finale also involved another show-first after 36 seasons, with a tie resulting in the winner chosen by a single player.

Survivor has now revealed a “David vs Goliath” theme for its next season due later this year.

  1. The reunion show is getting shorter & shorter every year. And he doesn’t even bother asking the players about their game or feuds any more. And I don’t like the new final tribal format. People interrupting & talking over each other & some don’t even bother to any questions at all. Or maybe they just can’t get a word in. But Probst likes it so it’s here to stay.

  2. There is one thing that needs applauding : Wendall is the first African American winner of Survivor. There’s been a couple of Asian, Italian and a South American winner but Wendall is the first African American.

  3. Disappointing season that finished with an OMG with that tie!! When Jeff said he was reading the votes then and there you could tell something was about to happen!

Jonathan did have a great story and came across as a fairly decent person, he will be back to play the game again at some stage.

    Sia really is a gem!

The next season them is very meh, esp hearing who one of the players is….

  4. Hi D – the ‘warning’ on this story is perfect. This is the ideal way for you to report on material that contains/May contain/might contain/does contain aired or unaired spoilers. This is what viewers I’ve read on your site are keen for – it allows those who’ve seen it to choose whether to read on, and allows those who’ve not yet watched to click away before hitting the juicy stuff.

Please don’t confuse my comment with a complaint (!) and please don’t refer me to your policy about spoilers; I know it backwards. My point is the way you’ve written this appears to cover all bases – please copy this approach and I assure you it will appease most all readers/viewers 🙂

    1. Thanks Benita. It doesn’t cover all bases from editorial as it means no headline / photo on a dedicated TV site, which impacts on both SEO and archive search. Given it was a daytime broadcast and not a story about a winner or local series it wasn’t so necessary.
