Stargazing Live down, TEN takes entertainment slots.

Ratings: MasterChef and Shark Tank score for TEN.  Who Do You Think You Are? improves for SBS.

ABC’s Stargazing Live event with Prof. Brian Cox & Julia Zemiro was down on 2017, despite an earlier start.

Last year it drew 585,000 at 8:30pm but this year it averaged 463,000 from 8pm.

That was third in its slot behind MasterChef Australia, strong at 877,000 with an immunity pin win, House Rules and Eat Well For Less? SBS factual series Who Do You Think You Are? may have been last for SBS but at 376,000 it will probably top their week.

Shark Tank won its slot for TEN at 622,000 well up on last week’s 508,000. Interview ranked second at 467,000.

Seven News, ACA and The Chase won slots once again.

Seven network won Tuesday with 27.9% then Nine 25.6%, TEN 22.4%, ABC 16.7% and SBS 7.4%.

On SBS it was Who Do You Think You Are? lifting to 376,000, Insight (221,000), SBS World News (148,000) and Dateline (128,000).

7mate’s Outback Truckers topped multichannels at 216,000. Back to Earth: Stargazing Live was just 92,000 on ABC Comedy (and not so many laughs).

The Morning Show: 140,000 / 76,000
Today Extra: 115,000 / 69,000
Studio 10: 64,000 / 52,000 / 34,000

  1. David do you reckon you’ll ever acknowledge MasterChef (Nigella) or any of TEN’s specific shows in the headline? Today you came close with the b line – but it’s clear you’re not ‘into’ them atm… it is an opinion blog after all, but it’s getting embarassing

    1. I’ve watched every episode so far and I’m enjoying it. Yesterday had Paying Attention in the headline, last week Shark Tank, Masterchef casting on the weekend, lots in Programming section.

  2. Found Tim Minchin a bit inflammatory with his jibe at Prof Cox at one stage at the after show discussion re hating sitting there despite the bucketloads of money he must be earning for his participation.
I know it was meant to be a joke but just came across as obnoxious and don’t think Brian was impressed.

  3. I like Outback Truckers, but the voiceover is starting to annoy.
He could lose thousands of dollars
    He could be in trouble.
    Could delay him by days.

  4. Great to see that after 10 years Masterchef is still doing great numbers beating house rules and nines coles advert good to see shark tank doing well hopefully that will be renewed like Masterchef has

    1. I would say if in 2 more weeks it doesn’t lift to last years figures and winning the timeslot, then yeah at least a revamp may be needed. I am thinking it won’t reach the highs of last year as now the figures are going backwards instead of being on par with last year.

For instance same Tuesday last year HR did 812,000, so it is not moving up and the 4 weeks in raise to 1,272,000 is very unlikely: https://tvtonight.com.au/2017/05/monday-29-may-2017.html

Though note that Masterchef also did 1,045,000 this time last year so is down as well: https://tvtonight.com.au/2017/05/tuesday-16-may-2017.html and dropped to 765,000 when HR went up at the 4 week in mark (MC has been pretty much mirroring last year as well).

      1. *N.B: The Voice, Masterchef and House Rules all started on May 07th this year compared to last year starting on May 01st so figures are both still 2 weeks in.

        1. House Rules is only lacking in Sydney and Melbourne. 7 need to engage the viewership in those two cities to return to the program.

          1. It is down across all cities and biggest problem is Melbourne followed by Brisbane (with Sydney having the lowest loss) as in: https://tvtonight.com.au/2017/05/tuesday-16-may-2017.html

Sydney Last Year: 187,000. This Year: 171,000 (down 16,000)
Melbourne: Last Year: 225,000. This Year: 168,000 (down 57,000)
Brisbane: Last Year: 172,000. This Year: 122,000 (down 50,000)
Adelaide: Last Year: 86,000. This Year: 65,000 (down 31,000)
Perth: Last Year: 142,000. This Year: 113,000 (down 29,000)

Has been similar for the last two weeks.

          2. The same could be said that Sydney and Melbourne have always been MasterChef’s strongest markets (suffers most in Brisbane).

          3. Yep Sully and when the switch happened last year House Rules in Sydney was up to 316,000 and Melbourne 351,000, while Master chef lost those cities with it dropping to 184,000 and 294,000 which I guess suggests that HR’s focus became on Homes in Sydney and Melbourne (so that’s states started watching).

As I said I don’t think HR will get to 1.2 million this year but who knows, 2 more weeks will tell if the trends of last year are any real indication at all. Only thing is that in April MKR was getting between 1.2 and 1.6 so perhaps HR will follow last year and bounce way up, just that it’s now going down to last year. Like I said though so is Masterchef, but of course Nine didn’t have a show in the TOP 20 on a Tuesday at 7:30pm had The Last Resort and Operation Thailand on.
