Much-anticipated UK-US drama Patrick Melrose, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Hugo Weaving, begins on BBC First in late July.

The 5 part series has won strong reviews -at 89% on Rotten Tomatoes- and screened internationally in early May.

Starring Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Benedict Cumberbatch as Patrick Melrose and featuring Hugo Weaving, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Blythe Danner, the series is based on the novels of Edward St Aubyn and adapted for television by acclaimed author and screenwriter David Nicholls (One Day, Starter for Ten).

At once harrowing and hilarious, the series tracks Patrick, a member of the British upper class, from a privileged but deeply traumatic childhood in the South of France through severe substance abuse in his twenties in New York and, ultimately toward recovery back home.

9:30pm Monday July 23 on BBC First.

  1. I also don’t know why a lot of new BBC Drama is going first to ABC again and we are paying an extra $10 drama pack for BBC First . They promised they’d have every new BBC Drama at least 12 months before ABC
