New HBO psychological thriller Sharp Objects is getting fast-tracked to Showcase early next month.

The series, starring Amy Adams will premiere at 11am AEST Monday, July 9, same day as the US, with a primetime repeat. It has some heavy hitters behind the scenes including director Jean-Marc Vallée (Big Little Lies) and scripts by author Gillian Flynn and Marti Noxon (UnREAL, Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

Based on the novel by Flynn (Gone Girl), the 8-part series tells the story of reporter Camille Preaker (Adams) who returns to her small hometown of Wind Gap, Missouri to cover the murders of two young girls. Trying to put together a psychological puzzle from her past, she finds herself identifying with the young victims a bit too closely.

Sharp Objects co-stars Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, Elizabeth Perkins, Matt Craven and young Australian actress Eliza Scanlen (Home and Away) in her breakout role as Adams’ 13- year-old half-sister, Amma.

Executive producers are Jason Blum, Charles Layton and Jessica Rhoades, as well as Amy Adams, Gillian Flynn, Marti Noxon, Jean-Marc Vallée, Nathan Ross and Gregg Fienberg.

Monday, July 9 from 11.00am AEST on Showcase (repeat at 8:30pm).
