Call for Entries: Treaty initiative

Vic-based Indigenous filmmakers, storytellers, directors & producers are invited to apply for documentary commissions.

Victorian-based Indigenous filmmakers, storytellers, directors and producers are invited to apply for documentary commissions around the theme ‘Treaty’.

Treaty is a joint initiative between Film Victoria and National Indigenous Television (NITV) where up to five short documentary films to be commissioned as online content, and the best content may be broadcast on NITV.

Film Victoria CEO Caroline Pitcher said “We’re excited to once again partner with NITV to find a new generation of Victorian Indigenous filmmakers keen to explore the world of documentary shorts. We’ll be looking for dynamic, imaginative and unique content so we encourage creators to experiment and push the boundaries of documentary storytelling.”

NITV Channel Manager, Tanya Orman said: “NITV is looking forward to partnering with Film Victoria again for this initiative. It is a great opportunity for NITV to engage with emerging Victorian Indigenous filmmakers on the topic of Treaty. We look forward to discovering new deadly voices.”

Successful applicants will be supported through the development of their idea and into production, under the guidance and mentorship of Executive Producer Beck Cole (Redfern Now, The Warriors, First Australians, Making ‘Samson and Delilah’, Wentworth, Grace Beside Me).

The content, tone and style of the short films are entirely up to the creator, so all interpretations of the medium of documentary will be encouraged.

“Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley said “This partnership aims to uncover new First Nations voices and talent from across our creative state. The Victorian Government is proud to support this initiative as part of our commitment to backing local talent and opening up access and opportunities for more Victorians to bring their stories and perspectives to the screen.”

Applications close Monday 23 July.
