Dancing with the Stars rumoured for TEN

The rumour mill has been gathering on a revival for Dancing on another network.

Been hearing this one for a while, perhaps I should have run a rumour…

The Herald Sun is reporting Dancing with the Stars may be returning to television, this time on TEN. A new network would at least open up new casting ideas.

ITV Studios is understood to now have the rights to the long-running series, last produced by FremantleMedia for Seven with Shane Bourne as host.

It’s an expensive show, but the might of CBS may get this over the line. The key to it will be skewing it young for TEN’s audience.

“I’d never say that we wouldn’t have a look at it,” programming chief Beverley McGarvey said. “There have been so few strong formats in Australia and so at some point their time may or may not come again.”

TEN has a number of light entertainment shows to announce soon, some of which are likely later this year, and some which will probably fall into its upcoming Pilot Week.

  1. Oh yes please – two best showson tv “dancing with the stars” and “so you think you can dance” ….and I cant view any version on any network ?

  2. I have thought for a while that DWTS was a format worth reviving. It definitely needed a rest after the Shane Bourne season. But the show was brought back from the brink multiple times throughout its run and can do it again.
That said, its old skewing audience would be a complete mismatch with tens brand and the direction they want to go. I think it was at home on 7. Ten would have to make some big changes, I wonder if they would consider titling it as ‘strictly come dancing’ a la Uk version.

  3. If they want to bring back a show that would rate it’s socks off, bring back Big Brother with Gretel Killeen hosting. Include the other shows around it such as Uncut and Uplate with Mike Goldman. Live streaming on one of their multi channels. It was a way better show when 10 had it. 9 sanitised it too much and took all the fun out of it. It needs to be back on 10 in it’s original home.

    1. I think as long as they keep the daily show to half an hour, really tight editing, a 90 minute eviction show and a one up late a week, it could work.
I find Love Island at an hour or more each night is too much to commit to….

  4. Horribly tacky. TEN has enough platforms for its “stars”. If TEN is to pick up any hand-me-downs from another network, it should be Big Brother, but considering that they had abandoned their youth demographic upon the advent of ELEVEN (’cause kids love their dated sitcoms, right?) I’m not entirely convinced that even that would work.

So You Think You Can Dance would make more sense. Hell, the contestants wouldn’t be any more famous than the “stars” that they would be casting otherwise.

  5. I like how everything they are rumored to be looking at is at least a little different to what is on tv at the moment, however this one seems a bit off as it traditionally skewed older so dosent seem like a great fit for ten.

    1. Would be interesting to see if any of a rebooted Aus Idol winners/top 10 would remain relevant like it managed to do all those years ago. People like Rob Mills, Shannon Noll, Ricki-Lee, Jess Mauboy, Lisa Mitchell, Matt Corby, Guy Sebastian and Anthony Callea, Stan Walker, Casey Donovan are are still relevant/somewhat relevant/at least heard of still compared to the Voice contestants. X Factor had Dami Im, Sam Jade, Jai Waetford & Johnny Ruffo. Even Australias Got Talent had Justice Crew and Consentino both hugely successful years after the show.
