FIFA World Cup 2018: guide

Your guide to Live FIFA action from Thursday night in Moscow.

SBS television coverage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup will feature 25 premium matches, including all Socceroos games, all Semi-Finals, the Final, and matches featuring at least 19 of the 32 competing nations.

Commentary is from the ‘voice of football’ Martin Tyler, while SBS Chief Football Analyst Craig Foster and The World Game’s Lucy Zelic will host every SBS match and highlights program Live from an SBS studio in Red Square, Moscow.

SBS will present the match of the day, every day throughout the tournament along with highlights from every match live, free and in HD on television and online via the official FIFA World Cup app, The World Game online, and SBS On Demand.

The SBS match of the day will be replayed each morning at 6.30am, in HD on SBS, and FIFA classic matches will air on Saturday and Sunday afternoons throughout the month.

SBS Radio will broadcast all 64 matches Live with commentary in up to three languages simultaneously: English and in languages of the teams competing. SBS Radio will also produce a special FIFA World Cup edition of The World Game podcast daily from Russia.

  1. Without critiquing all the other things wrong with this comment… there are plenty of new buildings being built. Stadiums mostly, but also train stations and other infrastructure. Even a new airport has been built….

  2. A comment lacking any real thought.
    Homelessness is an issue but how doesn’t the biggest sports event in the world ( along with the olympics) offer hope for so many people around the world? And particularly in Russia where hundreds of thousands of jobs have been created both directly and indirectly as a result of hosting the World Cup. The X billions you talk about does prevent homelessness and brings a great deal of joy to billions around the world. Ultimately life is to be enjoyed right ??

  3. Is anybody else confused about this Soccer World Cup? Why is it being held? What will it achieve?

    Millions – possibly billions – of dollars are being spent staging it for nothing. There will be nothing to show for it at the end. There will be no monument, no new buildings, nothing. It won’t solve homelessness, it won’t lower the road toll, it won’t reduce electricity prices, it won’t achieve anything.

    If I went to a bank and said I wanted X billions of dollars to stage something which would achieve nothing and disappear into the ether within a month as if it had never happened I would be laughed out the front door. It would have to be the most pointless and useless thing I have ever heard of.

    2. Really…..obviously someone doesn’t know anything about sport. The Soccer World Cup has millions of people around the world that attend and it’s not all for nothing or maybe everyone should just stay home and not enjoy there favourite sport. 🙁

      I for one will be watching and supporting Australia!!

    5. Google “how France winning the 98 world cup changed the country”. With a rising far right in the Host country of France, the multicultural France ‘Le Blues’ team brought together a nation and parties as big on the street never seen since WW2 liberation day. This is a TV blog, so I’ll keep my point relevant, ‘know your audience’, there are some fantastic documentaries about the world cup and politics on SBS on Demand. Check them out, the World Cup offers a tremendous amount. Broaden your mind, there is very little that speaks to the world as much as the universal language that is Soccer.
