Jewish group complaint about ABC reportage

The Australia / Israel & Jewish Affairs Council complains ABC about lack of coverage of events on the Israeli border.

The Australia / Israel and Jewish Affairs Council has complained to the ABC about lack of coverage of events on the Israeli border last week, accusing it of failing to adequately cover a Hamas rocket attack.

International media reported at least 25 mortars were fired at Israel by militants on the Gaza Strip last Tuesday, described as “the single biggest attack from the Palestinian side since the 2014 Israel-Gaza war”. It prompted a quick response from Israeli forces, though there were no reported casualties on either side. At least 110 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire this year, including more than 60 in one day earlier in May in retaliation to Hamas-led protests.

AIJAC executive director Colin Rubenstein said the ABC had run only two reports on its NewsRadio channel, sourced from the Al Jazeera network, and there was “no coverage” on the television news, flagship current affairs shows or the ABC website.

He accused ABC of exhibiting a “serious lack of balance” by declining to cover one of the largest rocket attacks against Israel in many years.

An ABC spokeswoman said: “Any complaint will be subject to the normal process and we will respond in due course.”

  1. The reason there is “a lack of coverage” is that it is boring. I’m sick of having the middle east shoved down my throat every few months. Thank you to the ABC for recognising the public’s fatigue over this subject and enabling me to watch the news without having to reach for the remote control.

    1. Veritas you have purposely missed the point of their complaint just so you can defend the ABC.. the substance of their complaint is bias in favour of the terrorist groups attempting to blow up Isreali defence personnel and insufficient detail of how the israeli defence personnel were attempting to stop terrorists with explosives strapped to their body harming civilians.

  2. I read this article this morning on The Age’s website and I was thinking … they are kidding aren’t they.

It seems to me that for *all* ABC critics … the ABC is damned if they do and damned if they don’t.
