Karl flip flops on Logies, takes aims at Sunrise.

Unable to make up his mind, Today host delivers another Karl-atorial without a shred of authenticity.

After Hugo Weaving indicated he wouldn’t be attending the Logie Awards Karl Stefanovic delivered another Karl-atorial in which he suggested the actor support the industry. He then hit out at Sunrise for also not attending (Edwina Bartholomew & Sam Mac are both attending), even referencing Grant Denyer…..

In case anybody forgot it was also Karl who called for a boycott on the Gold Coast Logies.

“I’m not happy about this Logies situation with Melbourne,” he said in September.

“I’m telling you right now if the Logies move from Melbourne I’m boycotting them. I will not be going to the Logies.”

Authenticity, Karl?

  1. Once again, Karl’s gone from larrikin to school-yard bully. I wonder if these scripted rants are from him or from the diabolical EP pulling the strings on his monkey’s mouth. Poor Georgie looked mortified.

  2. Karl is annoying, unprofessional and childish. His schoolboy humour and obsession with telling male guests they are handsome and gorgeous is frustrating to watch… (he’d never get away with this nonsense if it was a female guest) His scripted rants are done specifically to gain media attention to the show which may or may not be his idea. Sadly channel nine is the only channel we get clearly here in the sticks, otherwise we’d not watch it. I am looking forward to a new host, any host, to replace him.

  4. David, as you know, I love your brilliant site, but is there any way we can make TV Tonight a Stefanovic-free zone? This self-serving character does not deserve the oxygen he gets, and this latest outburst continues to show his irrelevance.

    1. I was saying to someone this morning, at some point media need to ask if we are simply facilitating. Obviously a Logies topic is TV specific, and so was #Floptus, but I do feel some on air feel a News Corp clickbait article makes them relevant. I can only judge everything on its own merits, and while I would decline a brekkie host-free zone, being part of the problem is front of mind.

  5. Shame Hugo won’t be there; he’s probably going to win the Silver for Outstanding Leading Actor or whatever they call it these days. I’m barracking for Damon Herriman for Riot; but i think Seven Types of Ambiguity will take it.

      1. The key is to be authentic and organic. Waleed Aly’s early editorials went viral, although I think he is rightly more selective about them these days. People backed Joh Griggs rant at Commonwealth Games because it was unscripted and had context. Karl was genuine when he apologised for a transgender slur. But his scripted soapbox moments lately are at random targets and strike me as another agenda. First a boycott of Logies, then criticising others for non-attendance? Stupid.

        1. Yes indeed. And as others have pointed out, his infamous uber rant among other outbursts have made it too hard, for this viewer, to look to him as a journalist or presenter or advocate of any congruence. You said it when you used the word authentic. I don’t buy his.

          1. Maybe he is trying to get fired. Weren’t their wild rumours about him wanting to leave Today at the end of the year?

  7. I thought they weren’t sending the hosts of Sunrise because of extra costs having the Logies on the Gold Coast. I don’t think they’re nominated for anything, so it makes sense. Karl needs to get his head out of his arse and actually educate himself before going on another pointless rant.

  8. After his performance in the cab, I think Karl is now very much under instructions to tow the company line and the company line is Logies are great. Unfortunately for Nine, I think they are delusional and the Logies are heading for the scrapheap. I’m betting this year will record record low ratings for the “event”.
