Logie Awards: Dave Hughes, Jess Glynne first guests confirmed

UK singer will perform and Hughesy will open the show with another merciless monologue.

TV Week has announced the first performer for this year’s Logie Awards as UK singer Jess Glynne (“I’ll Be There,” “I Cry When I Laugh“), the first British female solo artist to have six number-one singles in the UK.

“I’m so excited to be a part of it! My mum was obsessed with Neighbours and Home And Away when I was growing up, so I used to watch those shows every day. And I just love Kylie Minogue. If people are sitting down for a long time at any event, you really want to give them a good time,” she said.

Dave Hughes will again open the show, taking aim at industry targets.

“I’m excited to be opening the Logies for the fourth year in a row,” said Hughes. “You’d think it would get less nerve-racking, but it doesn’t. Walking the line between comedy and slander on TV’s night of nights isn’t easy. Luckily, I know most big names in the industry are happy to be made a laughing stock of on the big night. Hopefully, I can get through it this year without getting myself banned from any more networks as I try to convince everyone ‘it’s an honour to be mentioned!’.”

Queenslanders Sylvia Jeffreys, Leila McKinnon and Sonia Kruger will host the red carpet action.

Live voting for the popular categories re-opens from Monday, June 25.
