Lucifer thrown a lifeline
Fan campaign to save fantasy series gets good news.

Axed US series Lucifer has been saved from hell with Netflix picking up the series for a fourth season.
FOX cancelled the series last month, triggering a fan #SaveLucifer campaign. At the time, co-showrunner Joe Henderson tweeted “We created a season finale with a huge cliffhanger so that there was no way FOX could cancel us. Instead, we’re going to frustrate the hell out of you fans. I’m so sorry for that.”
The series stars Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar, Lord of Hell, who helps the LAPD track down criminals on Earth. According to reports, there were multiple buyers interested in reviving the series, but the deal took some time to hammer out since Hulu holds the US SVOD rights for the first three seasons.
The deal likely means it will continue in Australia on Foxtel, rather than move to Netflix, but that’s yet to be confirmed.

Dragging out the development of the relationship of the two main characters for 3 years before big cliff-hanger reveal doesn’t save you from being cancelled, it gets you cancelled because fans give up waiting for it. Netflix wants to hold exclusive rights to everything, but will do without it to secure genre stuff that their algorithms think their streaming audience will like.
Apparently Netflix are trying to clean up international rights so we might see it move to Netflix.
The first 2 seasons of Lucifer are also on Netflix Australia, so future seasons will likely get there eventually after an exclusivity period for Foxtel (if Foxtel even still want it, I don’t think it set FOX8’s ratings on fire to the same extent as its other comic book series). I’m glad that cliffhanger will be resolved!
Good on Netflix saving the day yet again but will Netflix provide over 20 episodes (perhaps divided into 2 seasons of 10 episodes each) and will Jerry Bruckheimer still be involved with this show, fans will want some continuity of story to continue where the Warner Bros production left off at the end of season 3. The possibility is there that Netflix’s Lucifer could eventually be distributed to other broadcasters as well.
