New David Michôd film for Netflix
Animal Kingdom team is reuniting for a new film inspired by Shakespeare.

David Michôd (Animal Kingdom, The Rover, War Machine) is now directing a new film, for Netflix, co-written with Joel Edgerton.
The King is inspired by elements of Shakespeare’s Henry IV and Henry V, as a young, disgraced prince, Hal, inherits the crown and must learn what it means to be a king, guided by his one true friend, Falstaff.
Edgerton will appear as Falstaff while Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name, Lady Bird) stars as Hal.
Robert Pattinson plays The Dauphin, Ben Mendelsohn will be playing King Henry IV, Lily-Rose Depp will be playing Princess Catherine, Sean Harris will be playing William, Tom Glynn-Carney will be playing Hotspur and Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie will be playing Philippa.
The film, now shooting in the UK, is produced by Plan B with Porchlight Films’ Liz Watts.
Netflix will release the film in 2019.

It will be interesting to see what budget Netflix have for this film, the re-imagining of Shakespeare is the ultimate thespian exhibitionism for actor / directors who take their art seriously and want to have hierarchical recognition for their abilities from their peers outside of the production line mainstream movie sets that churn out standard CGI product.
