Actress Rebel Wilson will learn today if Bauer Media must pay her $3.9 million in special damages after her unprecedented defamation win last year.

Bauer Media appealed the size of the damages, a record for defamation in Australia.

The publishing giant did not appeal the verdict but sought to have the Court of Appeal reassess the amount of damages, describing the figure as “manifestly excessive”.

Seven, Nine, News Corp, Fairfax, Macquarie Media and the ABC wanted to intervene in the interests of public journalism but the court rejected their participation.

Currently filming in Europe, Rebel Wilson tweeted last night that she looks forward to a hefty amount to reinvest in Australian screen projects.

Sounds like Hughesy may get some new opening material for the Logies.
