Returning: Australian Ninja Warrior

Bigger, better, faster adrenalin series starts on Nine in early July.

Season 2 of Australian Ninja Warrior begins on Nine in early July.

Rebecca Maddern, Ben Fordham and Freddie Flintoff return to ‘Ninja Island’, filmed late last year.

This season involved 300 contestants, 50 more than last year, over 6 heats. Around a third of them are returnees. 120 will make it through to 4 semi finals and 32 qualify for the Grand Final.

This year, the Grand Final course is bigger, with an extra stage the Ninjas must complete to earn the right to face Mt Midoriyama.

Last year there were 9 episodes, this year has at least 11 but it’s unclear if the Final comprises more than 1 episode, or whether Seven’s failed Australian Spartan will impact.

Nine is also teasing “Which Australian Ninja Warrior will create history in Season 2?”

Nine’s Head of Content Production and Development, Adrian Swift, said: “This year we have last year’s best, fresh from 12 months of hard training and taking on a whole new crop desperate to get to Mt Midoriyama.

“This program is a national phenomenon. Hundreds of Australians have spent a year training for this moment and millions of viewers will be watching to see who could become this country’s first ever Ninja Warrior. Who will it be?”

Sunday, July 8, at 7.00pm on Nine.

  1. The formula of ANW was brilliantly balanced – a rare delight for Nine – which made it such compulsive viewing. The absolute opposite must be said of Spartan which is why junkies like me for this sort of thing were gripped to every second of Nine’s effort but switched off in droves for Seven’s.

    1. Except that sport is presented for the end result, not for the sub-standard ‘drama’ and ‘stories’ that occur along the way. Let’s not insult sport and pretend that Australian Ninja Warrior is in any way more legitimate than WWE.
