Roseanne spin-off confirmed

Updated: Roseanne Barr will have no financial nor creative involvement in spin-off, after a settlement is reached.

A Roseanne spin-off, The Conners (working title), has been ordered by the US ABC network.

To star original cast members John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman, it will centre around the family of Darlene and clan.

Roseanne Barr will not appear nor have any financial nor creative involvement in the spin-off following her widely criticised Twitter remarks.

The Conners’ stories demonstrate that families can always find common ground through conversation, laughter and love. The spinoff will continue to portray contemporary issues that are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago,” an ABC spokesperson said in a statement.

Gilbert, Tom Werner, Bruce Helford, Dave Caplan, Bruce Rasmussen, and Tony Hernandez will serve as executive producers on the spinoff, which hails from Werner Entertainment.

Updated: “I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from Roseanne. I agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved,” Barr said in a statement. Added Werner: “We are grateful to have reached this agreement to keep our team working as we continue to explore stories of the Conner family.”

The show is due to premiere in the US Fall season in the same slot as the cancelled Roseanne.

Additional cast members and a premiere date will be announced at a later date.

  1. When we were watching the re-boot [before “The tweet”] we thought the only weak player in the show was Roseanne herself. She seemed to be over acting and over yelling and acting hammy. Whereas the rest of the cast were great. So hopefully the re-boot spin-off is a hit.

  2. So 30 years of friendship/goodwill is thrown down the drain over a stupid tweet? It was idiotic and distasteful, sure, but we have MPs and the like saying a hell of a lot worse on a daily basis and they get to keep their careers (from *our* dollars).

If any of the cast had any backbone this would have all blown over but it seems that there is a malicious agenda at play to erase Roseanne from the equation. It’s not like the woman murdered anybody. She playfully shares germs with her on-screen granddaughter (of African background) in the opening titles for God’s sake!

    1. I really don’t know why people keep repeating the story that it was all over a single tweet.

Because, as pointed out many times previously, she tweeted a bunch of nasty stuff together and has a 20+ year history of being unpleasant, nasty, and difficult to work with.

Maybe they’re not actually followers/fans of Roseanne Barr, but just jumping on the “Roseanne was robbed!” bandwagon to justify their own prejudices?

  3. Hmmm so will ten show it? I’d like to see the rest of the episodes of Roseanne, unfair that ten axed it while the us saw it all. I suppose I’ll find a source.

Unsure if it will work or not but Sara Gilbert is good and so was her family so it will be interesting.

  4. Nah this will fail for sure.
They’ll likely kill the character of Rosanne off, there’s no other way around it.
Sarah Gilbert is a terrible actor.
I cringed at her even in the scenes with the very funny Rosanne.
What they should have done is write Rosanne out for an entire season of 13 episodes and return her in late 2019.
They could have easily done that, but it’s all about ? let’s not be fooled.
That’s why ABC wanted to keep the ? cow going on their terms.
The Connors without Rosanne won’t even last 13 episodes. ?
Such a sad end to such a great Classic. ?
Run Rosanne, run as fast as you can. ??‍♀️

  5. I think this will work. People are quick to write it off before if it’s even aired.

I hope the whole cast returns. I was also wondering on how Darlene’s son was going to work it with all the cross dressing.

  6. What a way to ruin a great show.

Sara is a horrible actress. Also the actress that played her daughter was horrible (hopefully she doesn’t return).

Roseanne should be back, it’s nothing without her.

  7. Quick, sign the contracts whilst Roseanne is clearly having a good day! That’s good news. I will be interested to see how they write her out and how her character is referenced from there on.

          1. Hmm. Not very kosher. Don’t you think? I thought it was all about not rewarding her in any way shape or form when cancelling her show. Maybe I’m naive. Smacks of hypocrisy

        1. You said it davdinprogress. There is a difference between the ridiculous outrage that occurred in response to Rosanne’s tweet and the commercial or legal situation that Rosanne has with the show and how it can be used going forward. It appears she had some legal entitlement to it and to forgo a settlement was reached. Thankfully the daily outrage of the left and fake news does not over rule law.

        2. Rosanne has a legally enforceable claim for a percentage and “created by” credit on the spinoff. To avoid that ABC has to get her to sign a contract that gives her something in exchange for those. Your not suggesting that ABC’s position, that Rosanne couldn’t get another cent because she’s a Racist, was just more virtue signalling are you?
