Samantha Bee apologises for comment directed at Ivanka Trump

US satirical host Samantha Bee has apologised for comments she made about Ivanka Trump, daughter of President Donald Trump.

The remark came during a segment in which Bee juxtaposed a photo that Ivanka tweeted on Sunday showing her cuddling her toddler son Theodore with a US immigration policy that allows border security officials to separate children from their parents if they are caught crossing over into the US.

“Y’know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another: do something about your dad’s immigration policies, you feckless c***,” Bee said. “He listens to you. Put on something tight and low-cut and tell him to stop it.”

She later tweeted an apology.

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee‘s network TBS then followed her statement up with an apology of its own.

“Samantha Bee has taken the right action in apologising for the vile and inappropriate language she used about Ivanka Trump last night,” TBS tweeted. “Those words should not have been aired. It was our mistake too, and we regret it.”

But White House press secretary Sarah Sanders called Bee’s language “vile and vicious”.

“Her disgusting comments and show are not fit for broadcast,” she added.

Car retail website Autotrader.com also announced it was pulling its ads from the show.

It follows similar criticism in Australia over use of the same word in Tonightly with Tom Ballard in March. ABC apologised for the comment.

Full Frontal airs in Australia on SBS VICELAND.

  1. How is this lady still employed??? Can you imagine if a talk show host said that about one Obama’s daughters??? They would of been fired before the show ended… Massive double standard.

    • Unlike the previous regime. Trump is running the govt as a ‘family’/mafia’ business with both his adult daughter and son in law as official advisors amongst others-not comparable to 2 school age kids in any way.

    • That’s a debate taking hold in the US. Are they the same? Perhaps. The context is probably that Roseanne tweet was the final straw for difficult-to-manage star. But yours is a fair question.

      • Sack her and cancel her show! Or are Lefties not held accountable for their “abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values” comments like Roseanne? Vile, rude ‘woman’.

        • Oh please, Do the Right Wing/Trump supporters snowflakes need a safe space?????

The same people on the right who support and defend Trump and his P***y grabbing comments, who calls women pigs, makes fun of women’s appearances, makes unwanted sexual advances on women, insulted Megyn Kelly and women all over the world with ” There was blood coming out of her eyes, Blood coming out of her whatever” comments, having affairs while his wife is at home with his newborn son. Paying hush money to how many Porn Stars and playmates. The list goes on and on….

And now the Right Wing and Trump supporters are upset over Samantha Bee’s comments????

          Oh give me a break!!!!!

          Samantha Bee is a comedian.

Bagbuffy, this article is about Samantha Bee and her derogatory and degrading comments about Ivanka Trump and is clearly offensive and degrading to women in general. If You wish to paint this as non issue then the readers can judge you by that.

          • @Oceanographer

@bagbuffy, it would be more constructive and meaningful if you actually address the issue of the article in your posts, instead just typing out meaningless hashtags and names. I actually have watched Samantha Bee on SBS and YouTube as well as a number of other left leaning talk shows. So try and post something relating to the issue of the article ie Samantha Bee’s derogatory and degrading comments about Ivanka Trump and women in general.

  2. Comedians need to stop apologising. Stand by what you said in the name of comedy, and your career will live or die on how you represent yourself. Apologies are for making mistakes, not because someone else didn’t like what you said.

      • Right. This was a carefully chosen word, with full awareness of the impact it has. She was making a point that mattered to her, which is nothing to apologise for. Maybe someone else would have made the same point differently, but we are in a strange new world, that demands bolder actions.
