The Australian has apologised to the ABC after publishing reader comments directed at ABC’s Ultimo headquarters.
Acting Head of Communications and former News Corp journalist, Sally Jackson, drew attention to the matter on her social media account.
The newspaper, which has been running heavy editorial against the broadcaster, withdrew the comments and apologised.
Inappropriate reader comments regarding the ABC were published on The Australian’s digital channels overnight. They were removed as soon as we were alerted to them. We apologise for any distress caused to ABC staff.

The Australian should “name and shame” Bella, Antonio and Bruce or are they nom de plumes for News Corp staff?
Devine, Bolt and Kenny perhaps?
Sadly…keyboard warriors seem to feel they can say anything….and they do…no thought or feeling for who they might cause hurt to…. 🙁
‘The Australian’ to apologise? That will be a first.
Fake news
Looks like another example of the quote from Paul Barry of Media Watch – [ABC] Journalists as a bunch tend to be pretty thin-skinned. They dish it out to other people but they hate having anyone come after them. Rarely does anybody take it well or with good humour.
Strongly disagree and clearly The Australian did too. There is humour and then there is irresponsibility.
David says “There is humour and then there is irresponsibility” Oh, you mean like Tom Ballard?
Not what I was referring to no. But that went too far and was apologised for, same as here.
ABC staff advocate violence?
Since you seem to agree that Paul Barry knows what he’s talking about, I would’ve gone with a different quote: “Never let facts get in the way of good old-fashioned prejudice”
How very unAustralian…
