24 prequel in development

All-new project is said to revolve around a young Jack Bauer. Tick, tick, tick.

You just can’t keep a good Jack Bauer down.

A 24 prequel is in development at FOX in the USA, to look at how Jack Bauer became the action hero prior to his time at CTU (young MacGyver anyone?).

Most recent incarnations of the hit series were 24: Legacy starring Corey Hawkins as war hero Eric Carter, and 24: Live Another Day with Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer in the UK.

Original series creators Joel Surnow and Bob Cochran are working with Executive producer Howard Gordon on the project which intends to be an ongoing rather than limited series.

Keeping the valuable franchise alive is nothing new. After Legacy ended there were reports of applying the “ticking clock” concept to another universe.

Former FOX executive David Madden has previously said, “The next version of 24 probably will not be CTU, American Intelligence Agency. It will be some other venue using that same style but exploring it through a different mode.”

Meanwhile Kiefer Sutherland’s last series Designated Survivor wrapped after 2 seasons, but he has remained an exec producer of the 24 brand.

“It’s a character that I love until the day I die,” he has said, but vowing any return “will not ever be a series again.”
