Airdate: Pointless

TEN's new game show begins later this month -just don't ask who is hosting...

TEN has now confirmed Pointless will debut at 6pm Monday July 23, meaning Family Feud should wrap on Sunday 22nd (please don’t tell Grant Denyer, we’ll never hear the end of it).

The series based on the UK format has Mark Humphries and Andew Rochford as hosts, and everyone is being very specific that this is as equal opportunity.

“I’m standing and he’s sitting down,” Humphries told TV Tonight, avoiding the singular “host” title.

“We’re hosting,” Rochford added.

“I do love the show, I tweeted about it 2 years ago,” Humphries said of his interest in being cast.

“What I love about it is it combines general knowledge with strategy. It’s not just about knowing something but guessing what other people wouldn’t know.

“I think it’s pretty highbrow. And that’s me all over.”

But Rochford disagreed.

“It’s not highbrow at all!”

Quizzed about the tall order of competing against Nine News & Seven News, Rochford continued, “I feel like if we’re going to do it we may as well go up against the top of the mountain.”

“It’s a challenge,” Humphries agreed, “But we’re offering something different.”

6pm Monday July 23 on TEN.

    1. The UK version on BBC doesnt offer very much at all. The jackpot starts off at 1000 pounds at the start of the week. If a team gets a pointless answer during the episode 250 pounds is added to the jackpot. If a team doesn’t manage to win the jackpot, an extra 1000 pounds is added per episode. I thin the highest I have seen someone win is just over 4000 pounds. You would hope Ten offers more money than that.

      1. The ABC has been showing Pointless in the afternoon for weeks now so it will be interesting if Ten can make a better job of it with those annoying commercial breaks. I suppose larger prize money could be an extra attraction, to my mind the idiosyncrasies of Pointless are designed for British consumption so ‘the very best of luck’ to Ten.

  1. Different except that the ABC and UK TV have used the UK version to do the same thing. The ABC ended up repeating 2 seasons over and over and UKTV moved it to midnight.

  2. Big fan of the UK version but the advertisement makes this one look tacky.
Not sure how it’s going to be cut in half (time wise) including ads.

Was hoping TEN would bite the bullet and hire a female host too.

Will watch the first episode, but don’t think I’ll be rushing home from work every night to catch it.

  3. “Crazily addictive”? Gogglebox-like couch images? In a single promo, you can already see Ten trying to mash this square peg into their round hole audience.

    1. Yep. I really like the UK Pointless, but Ten have succeeded in completely turning me off the Aussie version with their moronic ads.

  4. I’m a bit concerned as to how they are going to condense a 45 minute without ads show down to 23 minutes without completing butchering the format and its flow.

  5. Am i the only one wondering if our version will dumb down the questions/categories? This isn’t the ABC afterall. The UK one can often have some pretty obscure topics on top of needing the obscure answers needed.

    1. The UK version airs daily and that hasn’t hurt it with over a 1000 episodes of the regular version and 163 episodes of the celeb version aired in the last 9 years.

  6. Not surprising that Humphries is the main host, I thought it was strange though in the press releases that Rochford was always listed first.

Also small error.. Andrew, not Anthony ?
