  1. Good to see cricket on Seven. Let’s hope there are no personality cults created around the commentators (“Richie”, “Tony”, The Third Man) and that the BS cliches that characterised Nine’s coverage are now gone.

  2. Alison Mitchell is great on abc radio so she will be good, good to see Tim Lane calling the cricket. Its a shame mmm aren’t doing the cricket anymore on radio but I may not mute the tv now. There are a good mix of commentators on there. I think the foxtel lineup is a bit netter but it will be a nice change to hear different voices.

Still I will miss Bill Lawry’s voice.

  3. Looking forward to seeing how Seven cover the cricket. I think it will surprise a lot of people in part because David Barham is the head of cricket and he has done well with cricket when TEN had the BBL. Alison Mitchel is a foreign caller. I was surprised by Tim Lane joining the team. Although i dont think he will be calling any AFL games for Seven even for substitute purposes. 7 Sport already have Jason Bennett and Neil Carmody which did games last week.

  4. Michael Slater “He has brought an upbeat, vibrant and fun style to his commentary that fans have enjoyed.”

I guess this was when he wasn’t commentating on ch9…

  5. How are they all paying for this???
Nine were losing money on it with no competition
7 now will share with Fox , so I am assuming advertising dollars will be shared between the two. Go figure???

  6. Great…really looking forward to : Bruce’s gushing over superlatives, Brayshaw and his blokey MMM tough guy persona, Slater never shutting up and ch 7 having 12 commentators talking at once.

      1. Article suggests Bruce’s role in the coverage will be minimal and I think has been overstated by Seven. Only a few feature interviews and only at a couple of the tests. Won’t be calling any play.

    1. “Three key ball-by-ball callers will call the Test action.” Meaning it will be in groups of 3 changing over as now more than likely every couple of hours, so likely two calling the action and one as colour
      (expert) commentator.

  7. James Brayshaw and Tim Lane are both fantastic additions, great broadcasters of any sport albeit with very different styles. Must say I’m pleasantly surprised to see Lane included especially since he was overlooked for 7’s AFL coverage in 2012. Wonder if he’ll now pop up on the AFL as well, even if as an occasional fill in commentator.

    1. Tim Lane is kept busy by 3AW as their chief commentator for AFL, mainly calling Saturday and Sunday afternoon matches. I suppose it’s possible that he could cover a night match for Seven.

Back to the cricket, and Tim Lane calling tests for Seven leaves a hole at Macquarie Radio where he and Bruce Eva alternated as the primary ball-by-ball callers in recent years. Presumably Tim will still call ODIs and BBL for Macquarie. Possibly David Morrow (2GB NRL caller / ex ABC radio) will be Macquarie’s new #2 test play-by-play caller as he called some cricket for them last summer.

      1. TV commitments usually trump radio commitments so if Seven want Tim to call AFL from time to time this may just mean he is absent from 3AW at times as we have seen with James Brayshaw with Triple M since joining 7. Just as an aside Tim could still call tests for Macquarie, many commentators cover tests for multiple broadcasters at once it just means they do not get as much of a rest during the days play.
