Silver Logie winner Jessica Marais, voted Most Popular Actress, will star in a new Nine drama Bad Mothers.
Nine announced the murder drama this morning at a post-Logies recovery event on the Gold Coast.
The 2019 drama, produced by Jungle will also feature Mandy McElhinney (Love Child, Hyde & Seek), Shalom Brune-Franklin (Doctor Doctor, Our Girl) and Jessica Tovey (Wolf Creek, Wonderland).
Some mothers are perfect with a beautiful home and the perfect family but sometimes behind that pristine picket fence, there’s a world of dirty … little … secrets.
Four very different mother’s lives will collide. Outsiders in a storm of suspicion and danger and when this sisterhood comes together it’s murder.
Andy Ryan and Jo Rooney, Nine’s Co-Heads of Drama, say: “When the going gets tough, our Bad Mothers will stick together. Whether they’re juggling the highs and lows of parenthood, careers, love and even murder, Australia’s new best friends lead the way with charm, smarts, and a shameless bad attitude.”
Sally Caplan, Head of Production at Screen Australia adds: “It’s fantastic to see some of Australia’s strongest TV writers coming on board for this female-led ensemble piece. Writers Rachel Lang, Sarah Walker, Gavin Strawhan and Phil Lloyd have created a genuine and relatable script about the challenges of modern parenthood, with humour and heart.”
“We’re particularly excited to see production company Jungle carry out their first one-hour format series, and with the track record of the writers and producers working on this project, we have no doubt Bad Mothers will be one of 2019’s must see new series.”
The 8 part drama will film in Melbourne from October.
Bad Mothers is a Jungle FTV production for Nine. Principal production investment from Nine, in association with Screen Australia. Financed with support from Create NSW.

I like Jessica Marais & was disappointed The Wrong Girl & Love Child got axed. Good to see she’ll be in a new show.
sounds like Big Little Lies Aussie Version
Good mix of cast, not sure about the plot. Will give it a crack anyway.
But…but…it’s an Australian drama! Where’s Marta Düsseldorp, Deborah Mailman and Aaron Pedersen? Surely the producers are breaking the law?
Has Seven got an Aussie dramas in the pipeline other than Blake? Shame they aren’t getting anything from Bevan Lee or something. I remember when Blue Heelers and All Saints were there every week now they have nothing local airing.
Wanted, 800 Words returning. Australian Gangster is delayed so there is likely to be a gap.
Yeah it’s a shame they’re (Commercial Stations) not producing Aussie dramas to span the ratings year!
We’ll get saturated in September to November with Rake on ABC and Doctor Doctor also still coming….
Bad Moms is both a movie and upcoming tv series produced by STXfilms.
Which is why they should avoid any confusion and pick a different title.
Sounds interesting. Always good to hear of new Aussie dramas being made.
Sounds interesting but really unsure about the title.
Australian version of Desperate Housewives? With a hint of the Bad Mum’s movie comedy perhaps?
No comedy element.
Intentionally. perhaps-sounds far more like a copyright violation for ‘Big Little Lies’ than anything else (slavish imitation being the sincerest form of flattery.
Reminds me if a cross between How to Get away with Murder & Desperate Housewives, still could be good!
