Netflix #1 choice in USA

In the USA Netflix beats broadcast, cable TV and YouTube as the preferred entertainment choice.

No surprises here.

Netflix is the #1 platform for watching entertainment on TV in the US, ahead of traditional cable and broadcast television networks.

The survey of 2,500 US consumers by Wall Street firm Cowen & Co. asked, “Which platforms do you use most often to view video content on TV?”

Overall, Netflix captured the No. 1 with 27% of total respondents, followed by basic cable at 20%, broadcast at 18% and YouTube at 11%.

But amongst adults 18-34, the gap was even wider. Nearly 40% of those in the younger demo said Netflix is the platform they use most often to view video content on their TVs — well ahead of YouTube (17%), basic cable (12.6%), Hulu (7.6%) and broadcast TV (7.5%).

“Over the long term, assuming [Netflix] is able to continue to increasingly offer great content, this lead clearly bodes well for further value creation,” Cowen & Co. analysts said.

  1. Just wondering why Netflix Australia does not have the same depth of content as US or UK. Things are either delayed getting to Australia or don’t make it at all and it means when overseas we can’t view Netflix with our Australian account

    1. I’d argue that the content on Netflix AU is actually quite good, it’s just a bit different.
The reason behind the differences comes down to licensing agreements here.

The AU library has a total of 4855 videos with 3362 Movies and 1493 TV Series
The US library has a total of 5635 videos with 3967 Movies and 1668 TV Series

    2. I agree. I would love to see more American TV shows on Netflix, such as Glee and Parenthood that are available on the US Netflix. At the moment, there’s little television that I watch on Netflix apart from their original series which I binge the weekend they come out.
