Reality rules ratings week

Ratings: Without a stripped reality show, Nine struggles against House Rules & MasterChef.

If you’ve ever wondered why Aussie networks strip reality shows and avoid a varied diet of entertainment look no further than Nine’s recent fortunes. Since The Voice wound back to single nights and then disappeared completely it has struggled to compete with Seven and TEN in early evening timeslots.

At 596,000 Buying Blind trails the 900,000+ that MasterChef & House Rules are pulling, while Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation is lower still. Those with good memories will remember in 2016 Nine kicked off its year with a mix of Farmer Wants a Wife, Australia’s Got Talent and Here Come the Habibs. It got smashed by MKR.

Now that Nine has Australian Ninja Warrior back in play that should all change, and it may soon be Seven without a stripped format.

With the mid-point of the TV year this week, Seven appears unstoppable.
