Renewed: The Affair to end with season 5

I'm kinda struggling with Season 4 but there's still one more season to come.

I’m a little bit surprised to hear The Affair has been renewed for a fifth season, but at least it is the last.

I’m struggling with Season 4, with so many ‘off-centre’ perspectives and moves from the East to the West Coast that have made it turn very trippy.

“We love the intimacy, the nuance and the emotional honesty of The Affair‘s subjective examination of both infidelity and fidelity,” Gary Levine, Showtime president of programming, said in a statement. “Sarah Treem has always envisioned this as a five-season series, and we will be fascinated to see where she takes her talented cast and all of us next year in its climactic season.”

Creator Sarah Treem tweeted, “I was on a panel recently with a few showrunners and somebody asked about planning for the end of a series. We looked around and realized that none of us had actually ever done that. It’s a privilege to get to end a show on your own terms. I’m so grateful to @Showtime.”

Season 4 is currently screening 9:30pm Tuesdays on Showcase.

  1. Season 3 was awful …….. I actually thought season 4 was the last and I began to think thank goodness, they are just throwing these people into stupid situations for no reason now!

  2. The Affair should have ended with Season One, but this is an American show so predictably the original limited story which was just sufficient for a limited season run had to be re-imagined to look more like a sexual soap opera to extend it’s longevity. Considering that recently some much better shows didn’t last 3 seasons perhaps it says something about average audience preferences in America.
