Returning: Mythbusters

Explosive science series returns with new hosts Brian Louden and Jon Lung.

A new-look MythBusters returns to Discovery Channel later this month with new hosts Brian Louden and Jon Lung.

Both were uncovered in the series MythBusters: The Search, hunting for new hosts for the explosive science series.

Taking over from original hosts Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, MythBusters Brian Louden and Jon Lung separate fact from fiction in spectacular style with a line-up of epic and raucous experiments involving combustible gas tanks, water-heater torpedoes, goo gone wild and more. The next generation hosts are on a mission to put questions, fables, and urban legends to the test to determine which myths are true and which are not.

Brian and Jon earned the title of MythBusters by displaying killer build skills and science smarts in MythBusters: The Search. The series saw ten talented hopefuls compete for the chance to continue the explosive legacy left behind after Jamie and Adam hung up their lab coats and bowed out with a boom in 2016.

In the season premiere, Brian and Jon set out to determine whether a car airbag explosion can be lethal to a front seat passenger if their feet are on the dashboard when the vehicle’s involved in a low-speed accident. Will the force be deadly? Our dynamic duo strap in an incredibly anatomically accurate synthetic cadaver to find out. They also tackle the classic cinematic trope of delayed causality, and try to find out if it’s really possible to decapitate a zombie or monster so fast and so accurately, that the head and body hold in position for a dramatic pause. To find the answer they build and test out a rocket powered sword.

Some of the other tests they conduct this season set out to reveal if the jets of a fountain can lift and suspend someone floating in an inflatable ring, if a water-heater can turn into a destructive torpedo and finding out whether dog owners really do resemble their beloved pets. Plus, they recreate a dangerous and spectacular Bruce Willis movie stunt with shattering results and more.

Fusing scientific method with curiosity and plain old-fashioned ingenuity, MythBusters has created a signature style of explosive experimentation that doesn’t fail to satisfy the various doubts and marvels about our fascinating world.
