SBS share up, MasterChef scores, Single Wives struggles on Seven.

Ratings: VICELAND movie helps SBS to strong share, Nine wins Wednesday.

SBS managed an impressive 12.2% share last night -the kind of numbers normally associated with a World Cup broadcast.

Its new drama Dead Lucky drew an audience of 234,000 in a 9:30 slot, which is slightly higher than the timeslot average. But SBS VICELAND share was around three times its normal crowd thanks largely to a rerun of The Fifth Element on 131,000 viewers. Who knew?

MasterChef was easily the big hit of the night at 906,000 viewers, nearly double Nine’s Britain’s Got Talent on 483,000 and almost triple Seven’s failed Single Wives on 343,000. On those numbers expect the show to be bumped.

Anh’s Brush with Fame and The Weekly with Charlie Pickering were both down on last week. From 9pm You Can’t Ask That was in front.

Nine network won Wednesday with 25.5% then Seven 24.9%, TEN 19.9%, ABC 17.4% and SBS 12.2%.

Nine News (970,000 / 950,000) was best for Nine then A Current Affair (757,000), Britain’s Got Talent (483,000) and Britain’s Got More Talent (291,000).

Seven News was #1 for Seven with 1.04m/ 1.01m followed by Home and Away (661,000), The Chase (628,000 / 394,000), The Single Wives (343,000), Criminal Minds (299,000 / 274,000),

MasterChef Australia blitzed the competition with 906,000 viewers for TEN then The Project (575,000 / 298,000), TEN Eyewitness News (428,000) and Instinct (378,000). Madam Secretary pulled 172,000.

ABC News (696,000), Anh’s Brush with Fame (629,000), The Weekly with Charlie Pickering (585,000), 7:30 (535,000), You Can’t Ask That (452,000), Adam Hills: The Last Leg (254,000) and Think Tank (230,000) comprised ABC’s night.

On SBS it was Titanic: The New Evidence (286,000), Simon Reeve in Burma (247,000), Dead Lucky (234,000), Tour de France (211,000) and SBS World News (137,000).

  1. Could the title “single wives” contribute to lack of interest? The contradiction in terms made no sense to me, and didn’t give any idea of the premise of the show.

  2. Quite enjoyed Dead Lucky. Good enough to keep me watching.
    Though at times I thought I was watching Jack Irish…quite similar, especially the foreign uni students living together and working in dodgy jobs.
    Rachel Griffiths is excellent as usual.

  5. Single Wives back on tonight in NSW and then only shown Thursday nights from then on which will improve its numbers. Criminal Minds numbers were terrible for its return but it moves to 9.30pm next Wednesday which suits the ratings its getting.

  6. Charlie Pickering took a fairly big fall, but I imagine a lot of people are binging on it in catch up! The Single Wives deserves better, was well received on Twtter. Good to see SBS having a strong night without world cup.

  8. After checking your Top 20 listing, I had to find the TV Guide to discover what failed 7 at 7.30.
    Yep, agree. Reckon the “Dumped” announcement will be forthcoming either late today or early tomorrow morning.
